Macroeconomic Policy and Environmental Challenges

FERDI analyses macroeconomic policies—monetary, exchange rate and financial systems—in developing countries. Its work aims to inform policy decision-making, strengthen institutional capacity and contribute to international debates on development finance.

Cooperation and Partnerships

Banque de France – FERDI Partnership
Under their sponsorship agreement, FERDI and the Banque de France carry out research, scientific exchanges and knowledge dissemination activities aimed at strengthening the analysis of macroeconomic, financial and climate policies in developing economies.

International Conference – November 2025
Organised by the Banque de France, FERDI and the French Development Agency (AFD), this online conference focused on the role of the financial sector in addressing climate change in Africa.

Macrofiscal Facility – European Commission (2024–2027)
FERDI, in consortium with Linpico, is implementing a project aimed at supporting DG INTPA's activities in macroeconomic and fiscal analysis and strengthening the skills of its staff.

Regional Cooperation in Africa
FERDI contributes to debates on the evolution of monetary systems and exchange rate regimes in Africa, in partnership with UEMOA.

Intellectual Output and Research

Critical Minerals and the Energy Transition (2025)
A joint study with the Banque de France analyses the price elasticity of supply of critical minerals using mine-level data (F Vertier P., Jacolin L., Mien É., Léon F., FERDI Working Paper P356).

Monetary Policies and Development (2025)
An article on the impact of monetary policies was published in an academic journal and notably featured on the VoxDev platform (Léon F., Dramé D., 2025).

Other Contributions

  • Contribution to the annual report on Africa–France Monetary Cooperation (box on fiscal gaps).
  • Presentation at a seminar organised by the Directorate General of International Economics and Cooperation (Banque de France, 18 November 2025), including doctoral research on the impact of climate-related disasters on international aid.

In these areas, FERDI collaborates closely with CERDI, the Banque de France, WAEMU, and CEMAC.
