9.00 a.m - 9.30 a.m: Mapping impact investing in Africa

This session will present the mapping of impact investing and the associated report conducted by the FERDI Impact Investing Chair. Based on the academic literature on impact investment, the Chair has defined several criteria for classifying investors as impact investors. Using this definition, over 250 investors operating on the continent have been identified. This session will discuss these aspects and highlight key facts about impact investors in Africa.

9.30 a.m - 11.30 a.m: Roundtable on the changing face of impact investing: issues and development

Impact investing is a rapidly growing sector, and Africa is no exception. The sector is also characterised by several developments across the continent, including the emergence of new actors. These trends have the potential to transform impact investing in Africa. The aim of this session is to discuss the main current trends and their possible implications.

12.00 a.m - 1.00 p.m: Roundtable on impact measurement and the contribution of research

Measuring economic, social and environmental impact is a core issue for impact investors. There is a rich academic literature on best practices in impact measurement. However, the practices of investors remain rather distant from these tools. This roundtable aims to bring these two sides together to identify possible areas for improvement in current impact measurement by investors.

1.00 p.m - 1.15 p.m: Closing remarks

The purpose of the FERDI Impact Investing Chair is to conduct research into the impact investing sector in Africa to adress the need for greater knowledge. To achieve this, the Chair's first task was to map the sector based on several criteria defining impact investing. The survey identified more than 250 impact investors operating on the continent.

To share its first findings and officially inaugurate the Impact Investing Chair, FERDI is organising a roundtable bringing together the key actors in impact investing in Africa. This event will provide an opportunity to present the mapping carried out by the Chair and its key findings. The event will also provide an opportunity for researchers and impact investing professionals to convene and discuss the structuring and advancement of impact investing in Africa (particularly French-speaking Africa). The challenges confronting this sector and its importance for the continent's development will be at the core of the discussions.

The conference aims to enrich the debate on current issues relating to impact investing in Africa and to formulate recommendations for the sector's advancement. It will also endeavor to identify the challenges that will shape the agenda of the Chair, positioning it as a key actor in analyzing the mechanisms of this sector in Africa.
