DATAFID Project: Enhancing the Digital Capabilities of Tax and Customs Administrations
The DATAFID project aimed to improve knowledge of the digital economy and its impacts and to strengthen the capacities of tax and customs administrations through better use of data science.

Complete

The DATAFID project (regional project to support the strengthening of digital economy statistics and the use of data science by tax and customs administrations) implemented by Expertise France was part of France's strategy to improve the mobilisation of domestic public resources (MRIP) in developing countries (2020-2023). It was financed by the French Treasury (DGTrésor), as part of the French Strategic Investment Plan for Development (PISD).

The DATAFID project started on 1 March 2021, with a start-up phase conducted with tax administrations and national statistical institutes in order to establish a diagnostic and define the future activities to be implemented.

A launch event was held from 11 to 15 October 2021, in Clermont-Ferrand at FERDI, then in Paris at Expertise France’s headquarters.

FERDI's Contribution: Development of Certified Training Modules

Commissioned by Expertise France in March 2021 to support capacity building in data science within tax and customs administrations, the Institut des Hautes Études du Développement Durable (IHEDD)-FERDI developed a tailored training programme in consultation with the beneficiary countries.

This programme included 12 distance learning courses, totaling 150 hours, covering various topics such as tax expenditure, mirror analysis, and R programming.

In April 2024, FERDI participated in the project's closing event.
