Professor George Mavrotas' Seminar : Food Security, Development Finance and Governance Quality in an Uncertain World

The seminar, held on May 19, 2025, in Clermont-Ferrand, was organized by the Clermont-Ferrand International Development Hub (Pôle clermontois de développement international – PCDI).

Professor George Mavrotas, a Full Professor at the Institute of Development Policy of the University of Antwerp and a Senior Fellow at FERDI, delivered a speech analyzing the interconnections between food security, development financing, and quality governance in a global context weakened by crises. 

He highlighted the worsening food insecurity since the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, with a particularly concerning situation in Africa. Drawing on UN frameworks and the Sustainable Development Goals, he presented recent work emphasizing the impact of global shocks on access to food and the crucial importance of effective governance in addressing these challenges

This initiative results from collaboration between FERDI, CERDI, and the Global Development Network (GDN), with support from the French government, local and regional authorities, Université Clermont Auvergne, and the Michelin Corporate Foundation.
