European Development Days: session on Decentralised electrification and development

 Decentralised electrification and development Mini-grids and energy kiosks to trigger development mechanisms in rural and peri-urban areas and the role of the private sector 

Veolia Institute and FERDI published an issue of the journal FACTS Reports on decentralized electrification and development. This issue takes us on a journey from Laos to Rwanda, India to Madagascar and Uganda to Brazil, looking at real-life applications and offering us a geographical and technological overview of the solutions that are beginning to spread across areas without electricity.

The objective of the session was to discuss the role of the private sector in decentralized electrification from some field experiences: Different models of solar kiosks in India (SELCO Foundation) and Madagascar (HERi), Energy4Impact’s activities in supporting enterprises serving the off-grid energy market and the recent involvement of impact investment funds (I&P) and of the African diaspora.
