The scramble for critical minerals

The special issue “The Scramble for Critical Minerals” of the Oxford Review of Economic Policy, edited by Christopher Adam, Rabah Arezki and Rick van der Ploeg, explores the economic, geopolitical, social and environmental challenges arising from the rapidly growing global demand for critical minerals. Essential to the energy and digital transitions, these resources are at the centre of increasing international competition, while offering major development opportunities for mineral-rich countries.

The papers were presented and discussed at the international conference “The Scramble for Critical Minerals”, organised by Ferdi, Cerdi and the Oxford Review of Economic Policy in Clermont-Ferrand on 26–27 November 2025.
