Financing the social and inclusive economy: Where are the impact investors?

FERDI was atthe 16th Convergences World Forum. Florian Léon, Research Officer, took part in a session dedicated to the international financing of the Social Solidarity Economy.

Since 2008, the World Forum has been a gathering place for those driving change towards a fairer, more sustainable world. Its goal? To equip professionals and citizens alike with the tools and means to think differently and take action, combining social justice with ecological transition.

As a unique forum for networking and exchange, it brings together up to 4,000 participants from around the globe each year, including SSE organisations and companies, non-profit organisations, public bodies, the financial sector, the scientific and innovation community, youth and citizen networks, and the media.

Florian Léon, a research officer at Ferdi, took part in the session on ‘Financing the social and inclusive economy: Where are the impact investors? ’ Discussions covered the following topics:

  • How is the social and inclusive economy currently financed around the world (focus on Africa)?
  • How do impact investors contribute to the financing of the social and inclusive economy on the African continent?
  • What innovative public-private partnership mechanisms can be used to finance the social and inclusive economy in developing countries?
  • What levers and tools can local governments mobilise to finance development opportunities in local communities?
