Jaime de Melo, Scientific Advisor at FERDI and Professor Emeritus at the University of Geneva, spoke during a panel discussion entitled "Whither Global Trade… and How Will Digital Transformation Influence It?"
The panel brought together several high-level speakers to discuss the evolving landscape of international trade and the growing role of digital transformation in Africa. His Excellency Wamkele Mene, Secretary General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, opened the session via videolink. The discussion then featured HE Usha Dwarka-Canabady, former Mauritian Ambassador to the WTO, Ms. Varsha Mooneeram-Chadee (University of Mauritius), Professor Jaime de Melo (University of Geneva – online), and Ms. Lesley Wentworth (Tutwa Consulting Group). The panelists explored the opportunities presented by tools such as PAPSS, digital customs, and AfCFTA protocols to enhance the competitiveness of African economies, particularly small states like Mauritius.
