Amrita Goldar, Senior Researcher at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER)

Amrita Goldar has nearly 17 years of experience working on energy, environment, and climate change projects for both government and non-government clients. Many of her projects involve collaboration with central government ministries and agencies (MoF, MoEF&CC, MoP, NITI, etc.) that help shape India’s position in international negotiations.

Her current work includes developing subnational modelling frameworks to forecast financial needs related to loss and damage and to meet energy efficiency competency requirements; providing inputs for India’s position on adaptation-related issues and the global adaptation goal; modelling the impact of policy changes on scrap metal demand; estimating critical raw material resources from the circular economy; and assessing the economic impact of climate change. She was recently appointed to two interministerial working groups led by NITI Aayog to develop pathways for achieving national net-zero emissions commitments. She also leads and co-develops four analytical models at ICRIER: the WSUT Sampada model, the Unnati regional CGE model, the Samriddhi global trade model, and the Prakriti adaptive regional input-output model.

Recently, she has conducted studies focused on understanding the impacts of climate-related disasters and projecting India’s adaptation resource needs. She has also examined the links between battery waste management and sustainable supply chains for electric vehicles, contributed to designing a policy on critical minerals for India, analysed the impact of renewable energy and energy efficiency policies on state-level job creation, and assessed policy priorities for a carbon-neutral steel sector, among other topics.
