UN-OHRLLS : meeting on “Accelerating the Implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the African Least Developed Countries”

Matthieu Boussichas (Ferdi) participated in sessions on the Implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the African Least Developed Countries and on broadband technology in developed countries in Africa.


The meeting on “Accelerating the Implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the African Least Developed Countries” brought together key stakeholders to share country experiences on how the world’s least developed countries are integrating the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals into national strategic planning. The meeting also focused on broadband technology and how least developed countries in Africa can leverage investments in broadband to achieve sustainable development. Case studies on broadband initiatives in African least developed countries also informed discussions. Outcomes of the meeting are planned to contribute to broader discussions on implementing the Sustainable Development Goals during the High Level Political Forum in New York.

Five sessions were scheduled :

  • Session I: Coherence and synergies between the IPoA, the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063
  • Session II: Accelerating the implementation of the IPoA, implementing the 2030 Agenda and Graduation Prospects
  • Session III : Case studies and discussion on how LDCs are leveraging investment in broadband infrastructure for national development
  • Session IV: Broadband applications and services for national development
  • Session V: Regulations and Financing investments in broadband

Matthieu Boussichas, Ferdi Research Officer participated in all sessions on the Implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the African Least Developed Countries and on broadband technology in developed countries in Africa.
