Joël Cariolle contributed to Chapter 5, entitled "Connect, adopt, absorb : digital technology diffusion", which explores the mechanisms of adoption and appropriation of digital technologies. This chapter highlights the levers that can be used to promote a broader and more inclusive diffusion of technological innovation.

The World Intellectual Property Report 2026 focuses in particular on the impact of emerging technologies, such as generative artificial intelligence, and on the public policies that can support their diffusion in order to stimulate innovation-driven economic growth.

At the event, the report was presented by members of the Innovation Economy Section of WIPO's Economics and Data Analysis Department (EDAD). An opening address was given by Fabian Curto Millet, Chief Economist at Google, followed by a panel discussion bringing together industry leaders to discuss the issues and challenges associated with the diffusion of technologies in various contexts.
