Presentation of the Sustainable Competitiveness Observatory (OCD)

February 23, 2017, Abidjan

Patrick Plane presented the project "Sustainable Competitiveness Observatory in Africa" at the AFD workshop in Abidjan.

Patrick Plane, CNRS Research Director, Senior Fellow and Program Director at Ferdi presented the "Observatory of Sustainable Competitiveness in Africa" project during a workshop « Perspectives macroéconomiques et compétitivité de la Côte d’Ivoire » organized by the French Development Agency (AFD) at the the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Statistique et d'Applied Economie (ENSEA) in Côte d'Ivoire.

The Sustainable Competitiveness Observatory (SCO) is an instrument to measure integration in the world economy. Competitiveness conditions the improvement in populations' standard of living. Without efficient access to foreign markets, sustainable economic development is very hypothetical, all the more so for the 54 African economies, most of which are small, not very diversified and whose labour market is confronted with the problem of integrating a large and fast-growing active population.
