Natural Resources, Growth and Diversification in the Middle East and North Africa
The effects of Natural Resources and the Role of Policies
MENA is one of the richest regions in the world in terms of natural resources. This book investigates how dependence on this wealth contributed to reduce the scope of economic diversification and how policy makers could encourage greater diversification. It highlights the important role of flexible exchange rates, consistent and transparent fiscal policies, and business reforms to strengthen competition and efficiency of upstream activisties in driving and sustaining economic diversification.
