Joël Cariolle (FERDI) spoke on the heterogeneous effect of digital development on access to employment.

On 29 January 2019, the EU-D4D Coalition organised the workshop: The future of employment in Africa - Opportunities and Challenges of Digital Technologies and Entrepreneurship in Brussels.

EU D4D Coalition is a group of European and African private sector actors, civil society and national development institutions that are committed to engage in a structural dialogue to support the technical implementation of the EU's Digital4Development agenda. The workshop aimed to bring together relevant African and European stakeholders to discuss the implementation of the D4D strategy’s priority “foster digital entrepreneurship and job creation” and address the skills gap challenge.

Joël Cariolle, Research Officer at Ferdi, spoke on employment issues, in particular on the heterogeneous effect of digital development on access to employment (difference between skilled/unskilled workers, destruction/creation of firms by sector, technological content, etc.).
