Dr. Mahabub Hossain is an internationally renowned Bangladeshi economist and scholar who is the current Executive Director of BRAC in Bangladesh, and formerly the head of the Social Sciences Division of IRRI (the International Rice Research Institute) in the Philippines and the director general of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies in Dhaka.

BRAC is the largest NGO in the world, working in 11 countries and employing more than 100,000 persons. Its activities include a wide range of innovative programs including integrated microfinance services targeted at the ultra poor and at microentrepreneurs.
