Conference on "Agriculture in Africa" organised by the Paris Dauphine Afrique student association

November 09, 2023, Paris - Université Paris Dauphine

Jean-Marc Gravellini, the Head of the "Agricultural Modernization Policies in Africa" Chair at FERDI, delivered a presentation on "Agriculture in Africa: Achieving Food Self-Sufficiency."

Organized by the student association Paris Dauphine Afrique, this conference aimed to explore the challenges, future strategies, and growth potential of the African agricultural sector in response to the central issue of achieving food sovereignty and self-sufficiency by consuming domestically produced food.

Food insecurity, one of the most significant challenges facing African nations, is partly attributed to the agricultural industry's range of issues. African economies appear to have recognized the imperative to enhance their agricultural sector, considering its economic, geopolitical, social, and environmental significance. However, how is this awareness reflected, and how are the concerned public authorities establishing and expediting favorable conditions for the industry to thrive? Furthermore, what contribution are the private-sector players making in this regard?
