A week of in-depth training to certified learners of the distance learning courses “Understanding and modeling the sharing of extractive rent in Africa” (between 2020 and 2025) and “Understanding fiscal design in the African extractive sector” (between 2023 and 2025).

This certification course is part of a natural resources management path, some of which is produced in collaboration with the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI). This course includes several distance learning courses:

  • Understanding and modeling the sharing of mining and petroleum rent in Africa
  • Use of financial models in the African extractive sector 
  • Understanding fiscal design in the African extractive sector (information on this page)  
  • Use Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) data to strengthen transparency in the extractive sector

Objectives

The face-to-face course will offer a total of 35 hours of teaching:

• Privileged exchanges with course instructors and guest experts;

• In-depth study of selected topics covered in distance learning courses;

• Practical application and case studies;

• Sharing of experiences and practices between participants from different countries and backgrounds;

Training courses are in French.

Target audience

Economists, lawyers, tax specialists, tax authorities, ministries of mines and hydrocarbons, other public or private actors of the African extractive sector.

To ensure the best possible logistical and pedagogical support, the number of places is limited. Number of places: 25 places.

Training accessible to people with disabilities.

Requirement:

  •  Completion of the “Understanding and modeling the sharing of extractive rent in Africa” (between 2020 and 2025) and “Understanding fiscal design in the African extractive sector” (between 2023 and 2025).
  • Know how to use Excel's basic functions.
  • Have a computer and an Internet connection.
  • Training is given in French.

Certification

FERDI issues, on behalf of IHEDD-FERDI, a certificate mentioning the title of the training and the number of teaching hours.

To obtain the certificate for each distance learning course, learners must pass a final evaluation.

Fees

The registration fee is €1,800 per participant. This fee includes, in addition to the training hours, some group lunches. Travel and living costs (visa, insurance, accommodation and meals) are extra.

Full scholarships (transport, accommodation and registration fees) or partial scholarships (transport and accommodation) may be awarded thanks to the support of French Development Agency (AFD), based on the quality of applications and the expression of motivations, with the selection process taking care to respect geographical, profile and gender diversity.

The scholarship application is to be filled in directly on the application form. Candidates are invited to seek sponsorship for their participation in training courses from other sponsors as soon as they submit their application.
